Baji Quan Videos
I thought I'd stop posting baji stuff under the bagua thread. This looks to me to be a pretty good traditional version of Da Baji.

I have to disagree, that's just flat out excellent Baji. I have seen that clip before, but it's been a while. Hun hao.

Well, yes, I thought it was REALLY good, but I'm not really qualified to make that judgment. But now that you have, I can agree.

There are always things to work on, to refine and there are some moves in this video that are done better than others IMO, but as far as just crisp, clear and expressive baji goes, it's a great example.

Baji Qigong et al.
I don't know about this video. It's supposed to be baji qigong:

This is rather interesting though:

Here's Da Baji, done not so well (I think) by a group of people:

Here's an even larger group:

This guy certainly has a different expression of it. Da Baji begins around 2:45.

Re: Baji Quan Videos
Lu Baochun seems to be good at Baji:

I think it was in one of the comments on one of these videos that made the stompiness make more sense, in that it's just the rapid sinking of weight/root and not actually stomping. I think I sort of knew this on some level but didn't actually think of it that way.

Re: Baji Quan Videos
Lu Baochun is a bad mutha... Yes the stomping as I have often said, should just involve dropping the weight on said foot and should not hop or include any upward movement. Additionally, there is not any overt extension in the leg. This is true in longfist and chen taiji too. This trains rebounding force from the ground. It also trains just plain stomping and dropping your weight into your target. Baji of course has some pretty specialized stomping methods.

Man, Baochun is spot-on with his Baji expression. You can subtly see the power behind his strikes (besides the obvious stomping power); his movement is crisp and precise, and it has a natural heft that underlies each strike. I wouldn't want to get hit with any of those palm blows -- ouch.

Conditioning
Some baji conditioning. I downloaded something that gave me Chinese font, and now I can copy and paste the Chinese names of baji and such and get more videos than searching it under English. This is cool.

Great post Jason. I instantly recognized the 2-man forearm drill. The others are great too, I'm going to incorporate some of them into the drills we do in class. Especially like the hip-check drill .

That was awesome, would not want to get hit by any of those strikes.
